Listening to Learn: Building Meaningful Connections with Our Girls
Building on insights from her books, Zen Parenting and Restoring Our Girls, Cathy Cassani Adams, LCSW, will explore how girls are constantly navigating new experiences, emotions, and challenges — and how they need adults who are willing to listen and offer nonjudgmental support. She will discuss how meaningful conversations can strengthen trust, deepen understanding, and create opportunities for mentorship. She'll cover practical ways to be present, ask thoughtful questions and listen with curiosity — allowing girls to feel seen, valued and understood as they develop their own sense of self. Time will be saved for Q&A, offering space for specific questions and valuable personal insights.Cathy Cassani Adams, LCSW, co-hosts the long-running Zen Parenting Radio podcast and founded the annual Zen Parenting Conference in Chicago. She is the author of Zen Parenting and Living What You Want Your Kids to Learn (both Nautilus Award and International Book Award winners), and her latest release, Restoring Our Girls, is a guide to building meaningful conversations that engage girls' critical thinking, sense of self, and genuine connections. Cathy is a clinical social worker, certified parent coach, former elementary school teacher, and yoga instructor. She wrote for The Huffington Post, was a columnist for Chicago Parent Magazine, and now shares her writing on Substack under Zen Parenting Moment. She previously worked as a child and family therapist and clinical educator at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She created/facilitated a self-awareness program for preadolescent girls called Be U. She has been teaching in the Sociology and Criminology Department at Dominican University for the last 15 years. She lives outside Chicago with her husband, Todd, and their three daughters.
